William and Agnes (Darwin) Ward purchase a 50 acre tract of land from Charles and Sarah Dickenson on 12 April 1773 for 21 pounds. It is notable that the transaction is conducted as a life estate: the title is to reside with their son John Ward (then aged 13 years of age), with the condition that his parents shall live on the property for the balance of their own lives.
The deed has been abstracted by Janice L. Abercrombie:
Charles Dickenson and Sarah his wife of Louisa to John Ward of same for £21 for 50 acres. William Ward and Agness his wife shall have their lives in the said 50 acres of land or the longest liver of them. |
