      "I also give to my Son Presley P. my negroe boy Lewis about nine years old if not disposed of in my time then Said boy to be appraised by my Executors and that amount taken out of his share of my Estate the Said negroe boy to be his and his children forever. "

      Lewis was appraised for $500 at Estate Inventory of 10 July 1854

      "Mr. P.P.DARWIN was born in York District, May 29th 1840, and died in Richmond, Virginia, at the residence of Mr. John D. Smith, September 2nd 1861. He was a member of the 'Jasper Light Infantry,' Fifth Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers. He had been for four years previous to his death a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The great absorbing theme with him during his illness was Religion; and his friends rejoice to know that he had its consolation in the valley and shadow of death. He prayed much and earnestly, and it seemed that he placed his whole trust in God."

      Obituary also includes verse by "J.E.L." -- presumably his sister, Jane E. (Darwin) Love.
